French Press Brewing Guide

FRENCH PRESS

Reliable, well-engineered, and perfect for making multiple cups of heavy-bodied coffee in minutes

WHAT IS A FRENCH PRESS?

The French press, revered by discerning baristas and specialty coffee enthusiasts, is a marvel of simplicity and sophistication. Its design allows for direct contact between the coffee grounds and water, resulting in a robust extraction that accentuates the natural flavors of the beans. With its ability to retain oils and micro-fines, the French press delivers a velvety mouthfeel and a coffee experience that is as visually appealing as it is aromatic. Whether exploring single-origin beans or experimenting with unique brew recipes, the French press is an essential tool in the pursuit of exceptional coffee.

HOW TO BREW WITH A FRENCH PRESS

1. Grind and add coffee

Coarsely grind your desired amount of coffee. A simple guideline is to use 1 tablespoon of coffee for every 4 ounces. Feel free to adjust this ratio to suit your personal taste and desired strength of coffee. Once measured, carefully add the coffee grounds into the beaker of the French press.

2. Add water

Heat water to just below boiling point, aiming for an optimal temperature range of 195 to 205 degrees Fahrenheit (90 to 96 degrees Celsius). With precision, slowly pour the hot water over the awaiting coffee grounds, ensuring a thorough and even saturation. Employ a circular motion or gently stir to ensure that every particle of coffee is fully immersed in the water. This essential step, known as "blooming," unlocks the flavors and aromas encapsulated within the coffee, setting the stage for a truly delightful brew.

3. Press and pour

Place the plunger on top of the French press without pressing it down. Allow the coffee to steep for 4 to 5 minutes, adjusting based on your preference. When the time is up, slowly press the plunger down to separate the grounds from the brewed coffee. Pour the coffee into your cup and enjoy the rich, flavorful result of your French press brewing.
