To brew with a chemex like a barista, see the instructions below.
HOW TO BREW WITH A CHEMEX
1. Position filter and add coffee
Position the Chemex paper filter securely in the top part of the brewer, ensuring the side with multiple layers faces the spout. This simple step ensures optimal filtering and prevents any unwanted coffee grounds from sneaking into your cup.
2. Saturate grounds with water
Start the timer when you add hot water. Pour until all the grounds are soaked or until you reach around 150g. Stir gently to ensure even saturation.
At 45 seconds, begin the second pour. Pour in a wiggling motion, then in a gentle spiral until the water level is about a fingertip's distance from the top or reaches 450g. Pour over the darker areas of the grounds, avoiding the lighter spots. This helps achieve a well-rounded extraction and balanced flavors.
4. Finish the pour
Once the water has passed through the coffee grounds and accumulated at the bottom of the Chemex, carefully remove the filter. Discard it, and your freshly brewed coffee is ready to be enjoyed!
